Regulation on Online Dispute Resolution in Consumer Affairs (ODR Regulation)

The European Union adopted the Regulation on Online Dispute Resolution in Consumer Affairs (No. 524/2013, the so-called ODR Regulation) on May 21, 2013. It was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on June 18, 2013 (OJ L 165/1) and will enter into force on July 8, 2013. Based on the regulation, the Union aims to establish a Europe-wide online guide for the resolution of consumer conflicts. This online platform should be accessible as of January 9, 2016. Online merchants based in the EU are obliged to make this platform accessible via a link. Since January 9, 2016, according to EU Regulation No. 524/2013, all online merchants must integrate an easily accessible link to a EU information page (OS platform) about a new online dispute resolution procedure into their websites. Consumers can access the new OS platform with the following link: http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr/
